Arrive and drive
When driving abroad you must prepare, as there are a few things to keep in mind to stay safe and legal.
Familiar aspects
When driving abroad, you must adopt some of the same safety practices that you do at home. Always wear your seatbelt, do not drink and drive, avoid distractions and drive responsibly.
Adapt to the environment
Make sure you are familiar with the rules of the road relevant to the destination you are visiting. Ensure you know what side of the road they drive on and what their speed limits are.
Insurance and vehicle quality
Consult your insurance company to ensure you are covered fully when abroad. You may need a Green Card that proves minimum insurance cover for that destination. Familiarise yourself with vehicle condition rules of the country you’re visiting; some countries may have different rules for different times of the year.
Licensing
Provisional Licenses are not valid abroad, as they are not a full driving document. You may require an International Driving Permit depending on your destination, so it is advisable to check before you leave.
